Lost-wax casting begins with a model sculpted in beeswax, then coated in clay to form a mould. The mould is heated: the wax flows out, leaving the cavity into which molten bronze is poured. Once cooled, the mould is broken away — revealing a single piece that can never be reproduced identically.
